Hooray for the economic depression. That is all I can say about the economic slump that the world finds itself in today. Of course it goes without saying that the above statement is dripping with malevolent sarcasm. In reality, I hate reality. Entire businesses going under? Check. Thousands of employees getting laid off? Check. Ten percent unemployment rate? Check. Thats the reality I am living in at the moment.

How the hell did this happen? I am a college graduate, not horribly deformed or unspeakably ugly, not too weird or not at all that nasty like I have Tourettes. In fact, I am probably the most normal person in the world if the phrase normal person actually meant anything. So how the hell did I end up with a job in janitorial services in Toronto? Ironically though, I know exactly the reason why I ended up carpet cleaning in Canada: my major was film and television. No surprise there, I guess.

For the record, I never grew up aspiring to do some window cleaning in Toronto. OK, I am not saying that the job is for idiots or anything. I just know that this is a job that someone has to do. Its just that that someone was never meant to be me. I actually suck at this job. You would think that office cleaning in Toronto is a job that anyone could do and only a lazy idiot wouldnt be able to do it, but I do suck at it. Its just not for me. Cleaning toilets, washing windows, vacuuming carpets or upholstery cleaning in Canada was never my cup of tea. Actually, maybe I am just a lazy idiot.

But this is the reality I am living in. I was ten when I first saw Star Wars. That changed my life. Now I am 20 with decent grades in film school and I was going to change the world. I never thought I would end up changing the upholstery. But I am not going to take away anything from the men and women who clean offices around the world. They are probably the staunchest combatants in the work force. They hunker down in their jobs with no complaint (actually I always hear complaints) and just do it while I whine about how my life sucks. The only upside to this is at least I have a job. I dont envy the poor schmuck who cant pay the rent because some Wall Street knucklehead went and played around with hedge funds and totally brought the economy crashing down. That dude was the real idiot if you ask me. I just hope that I wont be doing this for the rest of my life. Or directing on TV. Either way, thats hell.
